2012 Meeting: BioRubber for Europe in Global Perspective
  Background

The Institute for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWUM) has extensive experience in the field of plant molecular biology, metabolic pathway engineering and heterologous gene expression in plants. We are also familiar with the requirements of industry in terms of end products and markets due to the interaction of several group members with both national and international companies, including the health care sector and the plant breeding industries.

Current activities in the laboratory funded through national and international programmes focus on:
  • Metabolic engineering of pathways involved in the production of anti carcinogenic metabolites (e.g. alpha Hederin)
  • Production of potato plants with altered starch composition by TILLING.
  • Identification of actuator proteins (e.g. nano-motors) from plants and application in technical devices.
  • Alteration in plant development for increased biomass production.
  • Novel techniques for plant transformation
