Keygene is a private Life Sciences company, based in Wageningen, the Netherlands, that provides genetic and genomic research. Keygene works for leading vegetable and plant breeders, but also has customers in universities, hospitals and in the animal breeding, fermentation and food industry.

Keygene's aim is to develop novel enabling technologies and applications to support companies and institutes that carry out fundamental or applied genetic/genomic research or that seek to enhance the quality of their product through the improvement of the genetic material used in their industrial processes.
Keygene was founded in 1989 by a number of Dutch vegetable seed companies. Their goal was and is to create synergy and higher efficiency in their molecular genetic research programs and thus improve their breeding effort. It is an innovative and ambitious research company with a strong focus on molecular genetics and biotechnology for the plant breeding industry.

Keygene is the inventor of AFLP, the most used marker-technology for genetic maps. Keygene performs molecular vegetable breeding for its five share holders. Keygene has recently developed marker technologies based on the new GS20 sequence platform (e.g. Keypoint® and CRoPS®).
