CIRAD is a French agricultural research centre working for development in developing countries and the French overseas regions. CIRAD contributes to development through research and trials, training, dissemination of information, innovation and appraisals. |
Its expertise spans the life sciences, human sciences and engineering sciences and their application to agriculture, food and non-food, natural resource management and society. It employs 1.820 people, including 1.050 senior staff members, and has an annual operating budget of 200 million euros.
UMR chemical engineering, water and bioproducts (GPEB)
The CIRAD unit GPEB is composed of scientists belonging to three institutes in Montpellier: CIRAD and Universities of Montpellier I and II. Research themes include:
- Separation processes, often in processes involving reactions, with applications in water and wastewater treatment
- Extraction and functionality modification of natural compounds derived from vegetable resources (mainly from developing Countries to aid their development)
- Development of healthy products through formulation and structuring of polymeric matrices for controlled release of active compounds
GPEB is composed of 23 professors and associated professors from the Montpellier universities, 4 researchers from CIRAD, 3.5 technical collaborators and about 15 PhD students. The main research facilities (laboratories, greenhouses) and also experimental fields, are located in Montpellier, close to Mediterranean shore in Southern France.
